There is no standard dedicated to the qualification, performance and acceptance of PCBs used in medical device applications. While

IPC-6012(Rigid Boards) and IPC-6013(Flex) have existed for years as industry specifications for the performance of rigid and flexible PCBs, IPC’s Class 3 Performance Classification is merely a starting point for the essential performance of medical device printed boards. This presentation will address the forthcoming IPC-6012/ IPC-6013 Medical Device Addendums which will provide increased reliability parameters and procedures for compliance verification of both high and low volume PCB production lots of standard and “Micro” PCBs used in diagnostic and implantable medical devices.
