Liza Bernstein is NED (No Evidence of Disease) after three primary cancer diagnoses. She is an independent advocate who serves a global audience via social media, conference attendance, live-tweeting, speaking and media engagements, and in-person mentoring. She also collaborates, co-designs, and advises across the multi-stakeholder healthcare spectrum to break down silos, foster understanding, promote education and empowerment, and accelerate change.
Liza is a Stanford Medicine X founding ePatient scholar and former board member. Recent conferences she has attended as an advocate include the AACR Annual Meeting, 2017, as a member of the Scientist <-> Survivor Program, the National Coalition for Cancer Survivorship’s CPAT Symposium, 2018, and the San Antonio Breast Cancer Symposium, 2018. Recent speaking engagements include “Social Media and Cancer Care” for Phase One Foundation, and “Death and Bereavement in the Digital Age” for Stanford Medicine X. Additionally, Liza brings a background in design/design thinking which include work with RGA/LA, IDEO, Bruce Mau, and
Medicine X Design Studios.
Liza is a TCK (Third Culture Kid) who grew up in South Africa, France, and the US. She is passionate about connecting and collaborating across vastly differing cultures and digs deep into her life experience and artistic training to do whatever it takes to facilitate understanding and communication — she’s no stranger to mime and improvised sign language, which have the added benefit of yielding lots of laughs.
