Julian Loren is a leading expert on Industrial IoT, Applied AI, and Operational Optimization. He has more than 20 years of experience across a wide range of industries and has been focusing on Smart Manufacturing and Smart Logistics for the past eight years. During that time, he has led the design and delivery of Smart Manufacturing solutions to be implemented at more than 600 factories around the world. He has also built ecosystems with more than 300 partners and led the design and delivery of solutions for Smart Logistics, Smart Ports, Smart Warehouses, Smart Transit, and Last-Mile Urban Logistics.
Julian advises national and regional governments on IoT strategy and innovation policy, as well as serving on the boards of multiple IoT companies. Between 2012 and 2018, he helped build GE's IoT business, initially leading internal Smart Manufacturing solutions, and then leading ecosystem strategy and partners solutions globally. In this second role, Julian led the design and development of solutions for Pharmaceuticals, Chemicals, FMCG/CPG, Automotive, Aerospace, Heavy Industry, Construction, and other manufacturing and industrial sectors. Prior to GE, Julian led Smart Logistics and Portfolio Optimization solutions for eBay.
He is also the Co-Founder of the Innovation Management Institute where he designs and facilitates interactive and game-based public events. Julian has designed and led executive and graduate programs at Stanford University and the University of California, Berkeley and speaks and writes about intelligent systems, innovation ecosystems and disruptive innovation.
Julian has extensive international experience. He has lived in 10 countries on 4 continents, speaks four languages, and has remotely managed teams around the world. He initially studied Architecture at the University of California Berkeley where he worked on physics-based digital simulations used in city planning. He subsequently studied Film in Prague, New York, and Miami before completing an MBA at IE Business School in Madrid.
